Book Drive and Restoring Sight
Book Drive Initiative

Access to books is a crucial element in fostering education and personal development. Understanding the importance of this, Pretty in Pink collaborated with the Sri Lanka Upakara Foundation's "English Reading Camp" initiative to organize a successful book drive in the summer of 2023. The drive focused on collecting new and gently used books for Kindergarten through Grade 5 students.
Through the efforts of the Upakara Foundation's Youth Ambassadors, these books were distributed to the Maini Children’s Home in Batticaloa, which houses nearly 100 orphaned children. This initiative gave these children valuable reading materials to support their learning journey.
In addition to collecting books, funds were raised to install proper storage and shelving units, transforming the book collection into a near-library environment offering an organized and lasting resource for the children.

Restoring Sight

Many individuals worldwide, from children to adults, suffer from visual impairments. Unfortunately, a large number, particularly in Sri Lanka, cannot afford the high cost of eyewear. However, used eyeglass frames can be refurbished, fitted with new lenses, and distributed to those in need.
In the summer of 2023, Pretty in Pink launched a campaign to collect brand-new and used eyeglasses from the local community, offering a variety of frame options to support this meaningful cause. The donated spectacles were then provided to a youth council, which organized an eye camp featuring Ophthalmologists and Optometrists, ensuring proper care for those in need.
