Pretty In Pink Team launched its first campaign on October 29, 2022, hosting a Ladies' Brunch and Fashion Show which helped raise $12, 208.  All proceeds from the fundraiser have been donated to the Indira Cancer Trust (ICT) sited in Sri Lanka, which supports those impacted by Breast Cancer in Sri Lanka.

Pretty in Pink Brunch was held at The Old Mill in Toronto, Canada on Saturday, October 29, 2022.  This is the first event in Toronto in partnership with MedicAid Sri Lanka, a Canadian-registered not-for-profit organization supporting Indira Cancer Trust. The main objective of hosting the Pretty in Pink Brunch was to provide financial aid to support Indira Cancer Trust to extend and continue their support for those in need.

The event had a full Agenda that included guest speakers, raffle draws,  vendor tables, and two fashion shows.  Dr. John Rukshan de Almedia, Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, MD, MSc, FRCSC spoke about the importance of educating oneself about the risk factors for the early onset of cancer.

Mrs. Navina Senaratne, a proud past pupil of Visakha Vidyalaya and a cancer survivor herself spoke passionately of how having a positive mindset helped her conquer cancer. The event was further glamorized by an exclusive fashion show sponsored by House of Pallu, a one-of-a-kind boutique in Toronto that carries an exclusive collection of handpicked sarees from exotic landscapes.

A mother-daughter catwalk followed House of Pallu’s Fashion show with several raffle draws drawn throughout the event and finally an opportunity for a quick shopping trip with an assortment of vendors set up at the back of the banquet room.

Indira Cancer Trust (ICT) was formed in Memory of Mrs. Indira Jayasuriya, a mother of two children who had risked her life in having her second child and ultimately lost her life to breast cancer. Today, Indira Cancer Trust provides financial support services to help those better cope with having to live with cancer and provides twenty-seven free informational programs in line with WHO Cancer Control Strategy

ICT is unique in its own way as its divided into several categories in helping those in much need.  ICT introduced Sri Lanka’s first-ever cancer helpline, an online phone-based service offering information from specialists for cancer care services which includes, a mobile mammography service; aiding with living expenses; providing financial and educational aid and offers an exclusive program that is deemed to be a global hair and wig donation program.

The organizers of the Pretty in Pink Brunch would like to extend their warmest thanks to all those in attendance, sponsors, and donors, and for the outpouring of good wishes for helping make the first-ever Pretty in Pretty Brunch a success.
